What We Said
Overall our book group enjoyed this selection of short stories. Leisurely maybe a good word to describe Jhumpa Lahiri's writing. This was a bit of a negative for a couple of our members, but made the rest wish there was more time in our busy lives to read each story, put down the book and contemplate it fully before rushing onto the next one in order to finish the book in time for our meeting! Although the stories were all predominately filled with characters that are Indian immigrants, we found there were universal truths to discover and situations and feelings we could all relate to.

About Jhumpa Lahiri
Born in London, Lahiri grew up in Rhode Island and lives in New York City. She is a graduate of Barnard College and Boston University, where she received an M.A. in English, an M.A. in Creative Writing, and an M.A. in Comparative Literature and the Arts, and a Ph.D. in Renaissance Studies. She has taught creative writing in Boston University and the Rhode Isdland School of Design. She currently lives in New York City.
